Clinch Valley Health to Host 2015 Healthy Holiday Cooking Program

November 9, 2015

RICHLANDS, Virginia (Nov. 9, 2015) – Clinch Valley Health, will be hosting their 2015 Healthy Holiday Cooking Program on November 12 at the Clinch Valley Medical Center Basement Bistro. The program was developed to provide the community with alternative recipes that are not only healthy, but taste good too. The program is free to attend and includes blood sugar and blood pressure checks beginning at 5 p.m. with a cooking demonstration and taste testing to follow at 5:30 p.m.

The program is led by Sally Presnell, MED, RD, CDE, Director of Community Outreach and Education of the Diabetes Education Center. Sally has partnered up with Debbie Gillespie, Director of Dietary Services, to develop a recipe book that includes 16 recipes from breakfast to dessert that will be given out to each person who attends. Each recipe gives a healthy and tasty option for families to enjoy during the holidays and will be cooked and available for taste testing at the event.

“It can be very difficult to manage diabetes during the Holidays. Whether it is unhealthy food options or stress from all the social events, we hope to make it a little easier for people in our community,” said Sally Presnell. “The recipes and education we are providing to them are easy, different, and possibly healthier than what they might have traditionally prepared for themselves or their families.”
