EBUS Capabilities Now Available at Clinch Valley Medical Center
February 1, 2016
Clinch Valley Medical Center has new capabilities for 2016 with the launch of a new service, Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS).
EBUS is a minimally invasive but highly effective procedure that is performed in the operating room by Pulmonologist, Dr. Sami Jawad. EBUS allows physicians to perform a technique known as transbronchial needle aspiration (TBNA) to obtain tissue or fluid samples from the lungs and surrounding lymph nodes without conventional surgery. The samples can be used for diagnosing and staging lung cancer, detecting infections, and identifying inflammatory diseases that affect the lungs, such as sarcoidosis or other cancers like lymphoma.
“This service is another example of Clinch Valley Health’s commitment to providing comprehensive care to our patients, enabling them to stay within their community for state-of-the-art care in lung related diseases,” said Peter Mulkey, CEO, Clinch Valley Health.
